Michael Jackson - The Legend is Alive

Updated: Jun 5
It’s still three years until the 20th anniversary of the death of this legend – and I think it’s safe to say that despite many fantastic artists out there, no one has yet replaced the King of Pop – but the new movie “MICHAEL”, which covers the first 20 years of his career starting when he was a 10-year-old boy, has already turned into a global phenomenon. I do remember analysing the constellations of his death for the astrology magazine back then in June 2009, and I want to take this occasion to have another look at Michaels's natal chart. I very much liked and recommend the movie, by the way!
With both his Rising and Moon sign in Pisces and a Virgo Sun, the Indiana-born artist (29 August 1958, 7:33pm, Gary) had an incredibly sensitive nature and extraordinary sense of awareness. With that also comes very high vulnerability. These two zodiac signs form the axis of health and work, and the emphasis there shows both his emotional fragility and receptivity, esp. with the Moon on the Ascendant, whilst also being an obsessive workaholic and performer trained to function at all cost.
His powerful Sun/Pluto in Virgo reflects how he was forced early on to make many sacrifices, stick to the plan and schedule, and cruelly punished by his controlling, fame-obsessed father every time he didn’t live up to the expected level of perfectionism during song rehearsals with his siblings. This focus and perfect attention to every detail on stage became one of the main qualities he was known for. Michael also had a very powerful mind, a fantastic ability to visualize and see his ideas play out crystal clear in his mind: Pluto in Virgo is utterly methodical and all about laser sharp intention and manifestation. The pop idol was also a big lover of animals with his many exotic pets like Bubbles the chimpanzee or Louie the llama – a Virgo and 6th house theme, which is dominant in his chart.
On the other hand, Pisces is an incredible energy to have at your disposal when it comes to musical talent and wild imagination. This is what conjures forth other-worldly experiences, and, in Michael's case, even gravity-defying performances. Pisces is the sign of the artist and encourages openness to channeling divine guidance, but it often yearns for things it cannot even clearly define – something deeply emotional, like a state of total bliss in a cocoon made of endless happiness and harmony. This illusionary side of Pisces can appear aimless, boundless, helpless, or removed from any reality. Neverland, which Michael called his home for two decades from 1993, is the magical fictional realm of eternal youth in the famous Peter Pan and Captain Hook children’s fantasy story. The island is a metaphor for escapism and refusing to grow up, and this strong life theme is reflected in the movie when we see young Michael dreaming and completely immersed in his Peter Pan children’s books.
His 1st house Moon, the ruler of Cancer and his natal 5th house (children!) makes the music genius come across as very kind, caring, and naïve often to the point of complete innocence. It shows his profound connection with children, family, home, and a deep desire to just belong and be protected. He was deprived of any normal childhood, like playing with other children or celebrating birthdays, but Michael often visited children in hospitals (Cancer/ PIsces). The Moon sits in the most prominent place of his birth chart, a vivid symbold of his world-famous, signature "Moonwalk" dance move.
But behind that gentle demeanor, Michael Jackson was also a very smart, practical analyst capable of tough decisions and following through with his own plans. When he eventually had the courage to fire his father as manager and rid himself of his influence to take his power back, it was certainly a huge breakthrough as a Sun/Pluto person (“the dominant/ abusive father”) dealing with high pressure.
His Venus and Sun’s ruler Mercury in Leo, both fueled by a fiery Mars square, add a rich layer of creative playfulness and give him the desire to express himself and his talents very physically, authentically, and with confidence. Leo is also the show and performer’s sign, so the stage and entertainment biz was his natural habitat. Uranus next to Venus (trine the MC!) shows his unique style of moving, singing, and the ability to both tremendously impress and surprise his audience.
One more factor has to be noted during this short walk through Michael’s birth chart: Saturn sits on the Sagittarius Midheaven, bearing testimony to the artist's ability to pursue his goals and ideals with extraordinary discipline and seriousness and never lose his motivation or enthusiasm no matter how heavy a burden he was carrying. Saturn in Sagittarius corresponds to the Ten of Wands in the Tarot: making it to the final destination and achieving success after tremendous struggle and a heavy workload. And boy did he make it to the top. He truly was one of a kind, and the world still loves him.
