Jupiter got 'em - Maduro is a victim of hybris, greed, and self-aggrandisement

Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro, who had been ruling the Latin American country since April 2013, was captured by U.S. forces on 3rd January and has been hit with various criminal charges in New York.

A look at his chart shows that transiting Jupiter, the cosmic benefactor, is currently exactly on his Ascendant in Cancer (2nd conjunction), and its presence in Maduro’s first house over the past couple of months certainly reflects his response to previous warnings, threats, and mounting pressure.

Jupiter indicated favourable opportunities for him to move on but he declined multiple offers to take the easy route out and retire comfortably in Turkey, choosing instead to hold out in his military base lair and shout out loudly: “Come here and get me, I’m waiting!”

Maduro wanted to put on a strong and unaffected display and still refers to himself as the president, however he’s clearly overestimated himself. He has definitely brought about a big spectacle worthy of Jupiter, but his arrogance got him into a very undesirable situation, i.e. a prison cell in Brooklyn, instead of enjoying palmy, balmy days at a fancy beach mansion.

We can see that this disposition to talk big and act tough is strongly highlighted in his birth chart. The 5th house (personal power, self-expression, desire to run one’s own show) shows Sun/ Mercury in Sagittarius square Jupiter in Pisces: a double whopper. Exaggeration, hybris, not knowing when to stop – that’s Jupiter’s biggest stumbling block.

The surgical US military operation to extract the tyrannical president, which had been meticulously planned and rehearsed for months, began at 2.01am local time in Caracas, with the Sun/ Mars conjunction (attack, action, battle) in a perfect sextile to the Scorpio AC, reflecting the astounding efficiency, swiftness, and success.

The Scorpio Ascendant fell in Maduro’s 4th house, his home & private space, when he and his wife literally fled from their bedroom but couldn’t barricade themselves in the safe room quickly enough to avoid capture.

Looking ahead, 12th house (incarceration, exile) ruler Mercury (along with the Sun) is bracing itself for the 3rd and final Uranus opposition, due in May, which should be a key phase in the whole process of holding him to account.

Transiting Uranus currently sits right on the Descendant in Venezuela’s chart – “liberation and change”. Hopefully this means a great new chapter for the country after decades of disastrous communism, poverty, and suffering.
